The Diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam has suspended its functions to a Dutch priest who spent a Mass at the football team Holland Last Sunday, just before South Africa's World Cup final against Spain.
Paul Vlaar, the town of Obdam, prayed for the whole team spirit of the Dutch, known as A Clockwork Orange, and sang songs with their parishioners about football. For Mass donned a cassock orange, while the assistants wore the same color clothes and church was decorated with orange flags.
The diocese has argued in a statement today that Vlaar "did justice to the sanctity of the celebration of the Eucharist." Bishop Jozef Punt Marianus has established a period of reflection for the priest.
Despite cleric prayers Netherlands, the Dutch lost to the English in a match that ended after playing overtime with a score of 1-0.
